The first outreach service was established in Hawkes Bay in 1965. Peter Leslie was appointed visiting cardiologist at Napier Hospital, a position he held until 1993.
Peter added Wanganui Hospital to his list of visiting appointments in 1967, and continued there until retiring in 2000. Phil Matsis has continued the Wanganui Hospital visits since.
Ron Easthope was appointed visiting cardiologist, Hutt Hospital in 1969 and conducted a weekly clinic there until his retirement in 2000. Andrew Aitken now visits Hutt Hospital monthly to consult on congenital heart disease patients.
Ron took up the appointment of visiting cardiologist Marlborough Hospital Board in 1970, and he conducted monthly clinics there until 2000.
When Kenepuru Hospital out-patient services opened, the Hospital Board required regular cardiology OP services to be undertaken on-site. Peter Leslie, Ron Easthope, Richard Thompson and David McHaffie each conducted one clinic per month there. Since 2005, David McHaffie has based his cardiology OP activities at Kenepuru Hospital.
For around five years, Stewart Mann has been conducting weekly clinics at Kenepuru Hospital and monthly clinics at the Kapiti Health Centre.
