Emigrated to NZ in 1863. Became involved in the Waikato War. Then went to Buller, where he practised. For many years his base was at Charleston, where he was surgeon at the local Hospital. He was popular with the locals, and was invited to stand for parliament. He was successful, representing Buller from 1876-1879 He then returned to Ireland and England for further medical studies.
