House Physician Glamorgan and Monmouthshire Infirmary, Cardiff 1861 - 1863 Surgeon, P & O Company service 1864 - 1865 Practised in Bideford, Devon 1866, in Brighton 1867 and in Manchester until 1871. Then, as a result of developing tuberculosis, he moved to Denver, Colorado and took up farming just north of that city. This venture failed and his wife died in childbirth. He subsequently married their Swiss maid and in 1874, moved to Hawaii. Practised in Kauai 1874 - 1875. Moved to Honolulu in 1875, and was appointed Port Health Officer. Assistant Physician, Queens Hospital, Honolulu 1879 - 1882 Practised in Wellington from 1882 Honorary Physician, Wellington Hospital 1883 - 1887 President, Wellington Philosophical Society; President, Wellington Photographic Society; President, Wellington Rowing Club. In 1888, he moved to take up farming at Tarata, near Inglewood. Retired in 1891, because of a flare up of tuberculosis. Finally, moved to Switzerland where he died.
