Took an active part in the philanthropic movement of the Earl of Shaftesbury and was honorary physician to the first Shoe-Black Brigade. Arrived New Zealand 26 Dec 1858 at Port Chalmers on the SS Gloucester and settled in Rangiora. Appointed Registrar, Births Deaths and Marriages 1864 Left Rangiora in 1871 for Picton. Provincial Surgeon and Immigration Commissioner for Marlborough until 1878, then moved to Wellington.
