Educated at Eton, and Trinity College, Cambridge. Sailed to NZ to join a friend who was farming there. Began a career in farming, but after a few years, accepted the post of second Master at Wanganui Collegiate, where he remained until 1883. Returned to England to complete his medical studies. House Surgeon at St Thomas's Hospital. Worked as a ship's doctor before settling in Wellington in 1891. First registered as a medical practitioner in NZ 12 Nov 1891. Purchased the practice of the late Dr W G Kemp.
