Began medical studies at Otago University, completing them at Guy's Hospital, London. On return to NZ in 1894, he succeeded his father as Surgeon-Superintendent at Grey River Hospital. In 1897 he returned to the UK for postgraduate study. Sanitary Commissioner for Westland 1900, at the time of the plague scare MO in charge of the Victoria Military Ward, Wellington Hospital 1916-1919 Relieving Medical Superintendent, Wellington Hospital 1916-1917 Honorary Visiting Surgeon, Wellington Hospital 1919 - 1924
