Educated in Lyttleton and at Christchurch Boys' High School Initially trained as a teacher, and taught for some years becoming Headmaster of South Loburn School, Canterbury Commenced medical studies at Otago in 1919 HS, Kawakawa and Timaru Hospitals, and assistant at the Cashmere Sanitorium Came to Wellington in 1926, establishing a large practice.
