Educated at Wanganui Collegiate and at Scots College, Wellington Practised with his wife, Jessie, in New Plymouth and in Balclutha, before going overseas for further training in Edinburgh. Returned to NZ in 1932, setting up a joint practice with jessie in Hunterville He suffered a cerebral embolism in 1941 (mitral stenosis) which resulted in severe dysphasia.
