Educated at Wellington College HS / HP, Wellington Hospital 1948 - 1949 Anaesthetic Registrar, Wellington Hospital 1950 General practice in partnership with Erin Griffin from 1951, and in 1956, they were joined by Haydon Gray Visiting Anaesthetist, Wellington Hospital 1951 - 1956 Known as 'Dick' to his NZ colleagues Postgraduate training in England 1956 - 1958. Short-term appointments at a number of London Hospitals, including a spell as Registrar, Hammersmith Hospital. On his return to NZ, brought back skills in epidural anaesthesia, and pioneered its use in obstetrics.
