Educated at Waitaki Boys' High School HS / HP, Wellington Hospital 1942 - 1943, and in 1946 WW2 service with the RNZAF 1943 - 1945 Surgical Registrar, Wellington Hospital 1946 Postgraduate studies in London 1947 - 1949. After getting the FRCS, he worked at All Saints Hospital, specialising in urology, under Terence Willis 1950 - 1953 Returned to Wellington in 1953, and established a specialist urology practice.
