New security lights and cameras will soon be installed at Wellington Regional Hospital.

Staff and patients will soon be even safer when walking to and from their cars, with new security lights and cameras to be installed at Wellington Regional Hospital.

Over the coming weeks, workers will be installing new security lights – complete with cameras, duress buttons, and speakers – in the carpark adjacent to the Emergency Department and Wellington Free Ambulance.

“This initiative will enhance and improve security and safety for staff and patients walking to their cars at night,” said project engineer Andre Koorts.

“Once the work is completed the carpark will be better lit, we will have complete vision of the entire area, and duress buttons and speakers will enable people to call for assistance and communicate with security if needed.”

The preliminary work and subsequent installation will begin on Sunday 23 February and – depending on the weather – is expected to be completed by Monday 9 March.

While everything is being done to minimise the impact on staff and patients, there will be some disruption to parking as parts of the area must be fenced off at different times to enable the work to be completed.

“There is adequate parking for both staff and patients on other areas of the campus. Staff from CarePark, our parking provider, will assist where they can.

“Once completed, this project will enable staff and patients to be more confident that they are safe and secure on our campus at night. We ask people to please be patient and bear with us for the short time that this work is being undertaken.”
