Welcome to our Senior House Officers (SHOs) who joined the ICU team at Hutt Hospital to build on their clinical experience which focuses on caring for patients needing critical care.
Dr Ravi Ramaiah, Clinical Director of Intensive Care, said “The new ICU SHO posts are a fantastic opportunity to gain specialist skills in critical care, and the experience in anaesthesia would be valuable throughout their career.”
“The doctors and nurses work as a team to care for people with complex medical illness, supported by senior Doctors and educators. They also work collaboratively with our ICU colleagues in Wellington Regional Hospital, thereby meeting the critical care needs of the wellington region and beyond.”
Nik Charles, who stepped into the role of Clinical Nurse Manager, said “It’s exciting to see how well the growing clinical teams are working together, and being able to care for more patients here in the Hutt. We now look after 3-5 people at any one time depending on how acute the patient’s needs are. As we recruit more staff over the coming year or so, we will increase to have eight fully staffed ICU beds.”
“Along with the new SHOs we welcomed eight new nurses to the team over the past two months who are awesome to work with. They are supported by Clarence Flordeliz who was appointed to my previous role as Nurse Educator.”
